Care & Maintenance

Care & Maintenance

ReedStead outdoor furniture is designed to withstand sun, rain, wind, and everyday outdoor use. While our products are built to last, proper care will help maintain their appearance and prolong their lifespan. Below are recommended care tips for cushions, pillows, and wicker frames.

Cushions Fabric Care

Keep Fabrics Dry

  • Cushions are waterproof but can be affected by heavy or prolonged rain.
  • For extended wet weather, bring cushions indoors or under a covered area.
  • Our cushions can be stood upright or leaned to allow proper airflow for drying.

Routine Cleaning

  • Clean cushions at the start and end of the season and after parties or spills.
  • For fresh stains, rinse with a garden hose—this often removes the stain completely.
For tougher stains:
  1. Mix 2 oz of mild soap (Woolite or Dawn) with 1 gallon of lukewarm water.
  2. Clean gently with a soft-bristle brush.
  3. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and air dry.
For stubborn stains:
  • Use a mild bleach solution (max 2 tbsp bleach + 1 gallon water) in a spray bottle.
    Spray lightly; do not soak.
  • Rinse immediately—do not leave bleach on fabric for more than 2 minutes.
  • Avoid harsh cleaners to protect the water-repellent coating and fabric integrity.

Machine Washing

  • Cushion covers are machine washable on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent.
  • Hang to air dry; do not tumble dry.
  • Remove any hardware or Velcro strips before washing to prevent fabric damage.
    Storage

Storage

  1. Store cushions in a dry, ventilated area to prevent mold and mildew.
  2. If stored outdoors, use protective covers designed for long-term weather exposure.
  3. Ideally, store furniture at the end of the season or under an umbrella, pergola, or awning.

Wicker & Frame Care

  • Remove leaves and debris with a vacuum or soft-bristle brush.
Wipe loose dirt with a cloth.
  • Hose off the frame with medium pressure to remove dust.
  • Clean using the same mild soap solution as for fabrics.
  • Scrub gently with a soft-bristle brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly and air dry completely before storage or reuse.
  • Dry in filtered sunlight or partial shade rather than direct, intense sun.
Warning: Avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners—they can permanently damage all-weather wicker and cause long-term dirt buildup.
